1976: The Birth of a Cult Classic 🎞️

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (RHPS) wasn't an instant hit. After a lackluster release in 1975, it found new life in 1976 thanks to a midnight screening at Waverly Theater in New York, but something unusual happened.
Audience members began yelling jokes, using props, and this experience became the foundation of the RHPS cult phenomenon. As the screenings attracted a following, audience participation grew with fans dressing up as characters!

A Safe Space for Expression 🌈💕

From the beginning, the LGBTQIA+ community resonated with the film. Dr. Frank-N-Furter with their gender-bending persona, explored themes of sexuality and identity in a way that resonated with a marginalized group. The film's celebration of non-conformity offered a safe space for personal expression at a time when acceptance wasn't widespread.

2007-19: RHPS in Bowling Green 📰

For over a decade, WKU Student activities put on a screening of the RHPS. A community of people began to gather every at The Capital on Halloween for this special celebration of self expression and community.
In 2020 Randall Bogard, announced that he was to suspend the performance due to Covid-19 until the next spring. However, it didn't come together. Bogard moved to Kennesaw State in July 2022, and with him did any plans for RHPS to return.

2023: Rocky Returns to BG! 💋

In late September of 2023, Carter Ford and many talented performers living in Bowling Green got together for the first company meeting of what would become Rocky Horror BG.
Understanding the importance of the RHPS to our community, we put together a show meant to entertain and inspire our community.
You have the freedom to be yourself every day. Don't just dream of the version of you that you would like to be. Take steps every day to BE IT!

As we continue forward in time, we stay committed to honoring our community, highlighting exceptional causes, and continuing the traditions of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for a better BG.
